Europe, part VI:the wedding!

After close to two weeks of traveling around, Erik and I arrived in Galway, Ireland (see last post), and it was time for Nina and Pierce’s wedding, which was the reason we flew to Europe in the first place. Nina and Pierce, who live in Washington, DC, chose the Glenlo Abbey hotel, a five-star property with an amazing view of the countryside.I began the afternoon with Nina and family, who were eager to help her prepare — I love the shot below with Nina’s mother and aunt both applying her make-up at the same time. Before the ceremony, Nina and Pierce decided to break tradition and see each other. They met up in their wedding garb in his hotel room…and walked down the aisle of this historic chapel together. The ceremony was simple, and performed by a friend.Their vows were beautiful and heartfelt. These are the days when I wish I shot video (hmm….), but truthfully, I couldn’t have fit any more in my suitcase anyway :-)After the ceremony, we only¬† had about 10 minutes of clear weather to take pictures. But no worries! The rain passes through quickly in Ireland, and I was able to take the couple out again later. Mom photobombs this shot! The hotel hung both the Irish and American flags in honor of the American couple. I love how they looked against the sky and beautiful scenery. It was clear how much all the guests loved the bride and groom, as most of them flew from the States to attend. The toasts, this one by Nina’s father, were further proof of everyone’s love. Her parents also put together a surprise slideshow filled with pictures from the last several decades. My last activity of the day: cupcake-eating!Thank you, Nina and Pierce, for giving me this opportunity. Future brides and grooms, Julie Napear Photography is ALWAYS game for destination weddings :-)
