In honor of last week’s SCOTUS decision making same sex marriage legal, here’s a peek at our first gay wedding!
After waiting years to be able to get married in the state of Virginia, Karis and Christine didn’t want a big or traditional affair, so they chose to get married at the Bright Box, a performance venue in downtown Winchester.
The details on this renovated building are so unique!
They chose a “first look” so they could do all their posed pictures before the ceremony.
I LOVE this shot of the two of them with their daughter, Stella.
Who also announced their entrance on her Doc McStuffins car :-) (Is that spelling right? My daughter isn’t allowed to watch tv yet so we haven’t learned all the characters.)
I feel truly honored to be part of all my clients’ weddings, but as Christine and Karis are friends of mine, and since, until last year, they wouldn’t have been able to get married here, this ceremony made me particularly emotional.
For the reception (which was held in the same room), I introduced the couple to Lori at Everything Linen, who recommended these teal, ivory, and eggplant linens to complement both the colors of the wedding and the venue itself.
Bright Box has a wider menu selection than you’d think from a venue of its type, and I got to be part of the tasting!
Madlibs advice for the newlyweds.
The cake was made by a family member and here Stella is doing her best to eat all of it!
Congratulations, my dear friends! Congratulations to all same-sex couples and to all Americans. I don’t usually get political, but I’m a firm believer in equal rights for all. Life is never fair; we’re all born with different talents, abilities, and opportunities, and I’m glad to see that my country has taken a step forward in making us all a little more equal under the eyes of the law.
Today, love wins!
